Program: Stanford’s new Leadership Institute for Lawyers brings together leading academic experts, along with managing partners and general counsel, for a rigorous analysis of governance challenges in law firms and in-house counsel offices. The institute is designed primarily for partners in law firms or in-house attorneys with at least ten years of practice experience who are identified by their employers as having demonstrated interest and potential in developing leadership capabilities. This two-day program offers an intensive, interactive program, including case studies and role simulations, focusing on topics such as:

• developing the styles and characteristics of effective leadership,
• improving judgment and decision making,
• building motivation and commitment in organizations,
• exercising power effectively in communication,
• establishing and maintaining successful client and collegial relationships, and
• managing conflict, crisis, and change.

Nomination Requirement: Participants must be nominated by the managing partner, local managing partner, or practice group leader of their law firm; or by the general counsel of their company.

Faculty: The program’s faculty includes professors from Stanford Law School and other Stanford departments, along with leaders of law firms, corporate law departments, and nonprofit organizations, to provide an interdisciplinary instructional approach.
