I've ALWAYS wanted to backpack, and I finally have a friend to come along with me. I know once law school starts, I won't have the chance to do something like this in a long time (3-5 years is long for me). Like most SLS applicants, I'm a planner. The NOT knowing is hard. But I like your advice about settling debts. My focus has been on saving money, filing taxes as early as possible, and applying for as many scholarships as possible. This way, I still feel like I'm making progress towards my goal of going to law school, but I'm looking forward, not backward at my application that has already been submitted.
